The Olive Oil Times World Ranking is a data portal for the world's top-rated extra virgin olive oil producers and brands.

The ranking is updated in real-time with NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition analysis data, compiled and verified by Olive Oil Times.

Methodology

Rankings are based on points; a certified Gold Award earns 1.00 points, and a Silver Award earns 0.75 points. The listings include producers with at least five points and brands with five or more awards.

Consistency Score

The Olive Oil Times Consistency Score measures how regularly a producer earned a certified World Olive Oil Competition quality award over the past ten years, with more weight given to recent years.

Where:

  • Pᵢ is a binary variable representing success in year i (1 for success, 0 for no award).
  • Wᵢ is the weight for year i.
  • G is the number of gaps (non-winning years).
  1. Success Tracking: The ranking examines each year and marks whether the producer achieved award-winning quality (1) or not (0).
  2. Weighting Recent Years More: The formula values recent wins more than older ones.
  3. Calculating Weighted Successful Participation: The analysis adds up the producer's successes, giving more weight to recent years. This provides a number that reflects the frequency and recency of successful participation.
  4. Normalizing the Score: This total is divided by a value that adjusts it to a scale from 0 to 100. A score closer to 100 means the producer has consistently succeeded, especially in recent years.
  5. Penalizing Gaps: Points are subtracted for years when the producer fails to achieve a quality award.
